Chelsea had agreed with Fernandez’s representatives that he could be sold for £120m by that deadline but an offer never arrived. Manchester City are interested in signing the Argentina international, who wants to move to the Etihad Stadium, but there has been – at the time of writing – no club-to-club contact regarding the midfielder. Alonso also said ahead of the Luton game they are prepared for whatever
happens with any players who could leave before the deadline.

Moises Caicedo is almost back – but he’s only fit enough for the bench. In attack, it’s the new standard first choice front three of Joao Pedro, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer.
