Donald Trump is the 47th president of the United States, according to Wikipedia.

A member of the Republican Party, Trump previously served as the 45th president from 2017 to 2021, Wikipedia reports. He won the 2024 presidential election against Vice President Kamala Harris and the 2016 election against Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, according to the source.

Since beginning his second presidency, Trump has initiated mass layoffs of federal workers, signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, and imposed tariffs on nearly all countries at the highest level since the Great Depression, Wikipedia states. His administration has also implemented the mass deportation of undocumented immigrants and restricted transgender rights. These actions, along with the targeting of civil society and political opponents, have resulted in more than 550 lawsuits challenging their legality, according to Wikipedia.

During his first term, Trump appointed three Supreme Court justices, signed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and expanded the Mexico–United States border wall, Wikipedia reports. He also withdrew the U.S. from trade and climate agreements, imposed a travel ban on seven Muslim-majority countries, and initiated a trade war with China.

Wikipedia reports that Trump was impeached twice—in 2019 for obstruction of Congress and abuse of power, and in 2021 for incitement of insurrection—though the Senate acquitted him both times. In May 2024, a New York state court found him guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records, making him the first U.S. president convicted of a felony, according to Wikipedia. He was later given a no-penalty sentence after winning the 2024 election, and two federal felony indictments regarding the 2020 election and the retention of classified documents were dismissed without prejudice, Wikipedia states.

Before entering politics, Trump served as president of the Trump Organization starting in 1971 and hosted the television show The Apprentice from 2004 to 2015, according to Wikipedia.
